Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. This was a natural trait for a child born in Ireland, surrounded by talented parents as well as a loving and supportive family. Maureen came to this loving refuge on the 17th of August 1920. She was raised by her parents as well as family members. Her mother, Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer club in Ireland, and also ran a Dublin business. Maureen FitzSimons' was the second FitzSimons children. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara made up this family. Maureen loved playing rough athletic games as a child and excelled at sports. This passion and her gift in performing was astonishing. The fact that she was awarded nearly every Feis Awards for her home country's theater and drama is a testimony to this. When she turned 14, she was accepted to the prestigious Abbey Theater and pursued her goal of performing in classical theatre as well as operatic vocals.
